Default Mystery overheating problem help.....

Hello All,

First off I am new here. I am the owner of a seemingly plagued 2003 Jetta GLS. The car has been having a lot of problems, and I may have an incompetent mechanic which leads me to do me research here. I have searched the forums but have not found a thread helpful to the issue with my car. If anyone out there knows a solution please please let me know.... Thanks much in advance, I desperately want to get this car running right.

The issue:
2003 Jetta GLS 2.0 overheating Milegage 104,000

-Head rebuilt, head gasket changed
-New radiator, water pump, thermostat
-Car seemingly runs fine, then overheats after a period of time.
-Mechanic is now telling me he can't figure it out, and thinks the bottom end might be bad, which I kinda feel is a bs answer, but I am not sure.

Anyone have any clues, opinions, or ideas? Please help
