'03 wolfsburg engine toast after timing belt change
My friend just got his timing belt changed last september, and after that, he didn't drive the car until recently.
He put just a couple hundred miles on the car recently, and heard some knocking. The car died, and he had it towed back to the shop that did the previous work.
Per them, the pistons are bent, and the new cost to fix will be $5500.
They've stated that there was nothing wrong with the work that they did, but that the oil pump chain went out. They also seem to state that the timing is now off.
This seems strange to me, and I'm not a mechanic, but would appreciate any input on the situation.
Could their argument be accurate?
Thanks in advance!
